This Brave New Old World
Let us go then, you and I,
When the evening is spread out against the sky;
like a patient etherised on a table —
from The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock by T.S. Eliot
Let us go then, you and I, while it’s still morning, on my daily run. I’ve always wanted to invite you.
Why today? Maybe it’s because everyday things are not so everyday right now. Or maybe it is because everything is both more and less routine. So, come with me! I promise we will keep the requisite 6 to 10 feet apart.
You’ve already been introduced to my dog, Thomas. I got him a new orange collar just before social distancing. Thomas pees and poops a lot, so be prepared for a few stops.
Ok, here we go. The first stretch is a downhill, but that doesn’t last long.
We just got to the top of the first big hill. I don’t know these neighbors, but I think someone in the family is a nurse.
