I’m noticing this trend when talking about gender and sexual assault. Many good white men also feel it is their duty to be ‘Devil’s Advocate’ to either my writing or social media post. It’s not overtly hostile but in some sense it feels like they want to school me. Yet, I have a beloved teenage son who also, naturally is a ‘Devil’s Advocate.’ Is the socialized? Something to do with testosterone? As a woman, it feels undermining and hostile, even when I know it’s not the conscious intention.
